Cape Town Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic New Home

17 January 2017

The CTORTH unit has moved! The new state of the art Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital officially opened on the 3rd December 2016. This upgrade comes with TWO large, specialized and modernized dedicated orthopaedic theatres. These are linked to new surgical wards and high care units with all the bells and whistles. This new hospital will eventually be part of a large medical precinct in Cape Town. The adjacent building is still being upgraded to facilitate a dedicated physiotherapy unit and day hospital. Currently work still continues on a helipad to service a level one trauma unit and a bunker for radiology and oncology (cancer) treatment. The whole area will be further enhanced with the addition of a Virgin Active Gym, main street shops and coffee bars etc., which will all face a pedestrian only plaza. This will link the new CTICC congress buildings with the Media 24 tower. All this work will only near completion at the end of 2017.

This kind of Medical Precinct is the first of its kind in South Africa and will be the perfect place to facilitate high end Orthopaedic management, as our unit links up with the Cape Sports Medicine Group who service a number of our top sports men and women. This association will form the basis for optimal conservative and surgical management of orthopaedic and sports related problems.
