Dr T Munting
Dr Munting is a University of Cape Town Graduate (MBChB 1993), who completed his Internship in the Eastern Cape at Frere Hospital in East London. He Continued there as a medical officer and obtained a diploma in Anaesthetics (DA(SA), 1997. It was here that he developed his love for orthopaedic surgery. He then completed his post graduate studies as a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon through the University of Cape Town Orthopaedic Department (FCS Orth(SA), 2002. Immediately thereafter he spent two and a half years in the United Kingdom, in fellowship posts attached to the University of Bristol and Nottingham respectfully. It was here that he honed his skills in hip, knee and shoulder surgery. He then returned to Cape Town to open a private practice in Christian Barnard Memorial Hospital,(Cape Town Sports and Orthopaedic Clinic), and continued with a sessional post as an Honorary Consultant attached to the University of Cape Town Orthopaedic Department. In this capacity his currently operates at the New Somerset Hospital on the waterfront, where he performs joint replacement and complex hip surgery.
His main interest lies in all aspects of pelvic, acetabular and hip surgery, including and especially hip replacement and arthroscopic procedures. He has a keen interest in hip preservation surgery and manages deformities such as Developmental Dysplasia, SUFE and the consequences of PERTHES disease. He is also heavily involved with sport related injuries affecting the hip and is referred the pelvic and acetabular fractures at his hospital for surgical management. He continues to share an interest in all aspects of knee surgery too. He forms part of the orthopaedic on call team for trauma at his hospital.
He was a founder member of the South African Hip Arthroscopy Society and is currently its Chairman.
