Dr T Munting
Dr Munting is a University of Cape Town Graduate (MBChB 1993), who completed his Internship in the Eastern Cape at Frere Hospital in East London. He Continued there as a medical officer and obtained a diploma in Anaesthetics (DA(SA), 1997). It was here that he developed his love for orthopaedic surgery. He then completed his post graduate studies as a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon through the University of Cape Town Orthopaedic Department (FCS Orth(SA), 2002). Immediately thereafter he spent two and a half years in the United Kingdom, in fellowship posts attached to the University of Bristol and Nottingham respectfully. It was here that he honed his skills in hip, knee and shoulder surgery. He then returned to Cape Town to open a private practice in Cristian Barnard Memorial Hospital,(Cape Town Orthopaedic Clinic), and continued with a sessional post as an Honorary Consultant attached to the University of Cape Town Orthopaedic Department.
His main interest lies in all aspects of pelvic, acetabular and hip surgery, including and especially hip replacement and arthroscopic procedures. He also continues to share an interest in all aspects of knee surgery. He forms part of the orthopaedic on call team for trauma at his hospital.
He also consults and operates at the Sports Science Orthopaedic clinic and day surgery unit attached to the Sports Science Institute in Newlands.
He also runs a hip service for one afternoon a week at Somerset Hospital (foreshore) in the public sector.
