Dr Fred Louw
Dr Fred Louw is a specialist foot and ankle surgeon. He is trained in all forms of foot and ankle surgery, ranging from arthritic conditions to sports injuries.
He graduated from University of Stellenbosch Medical School in 1997.
He worked as a Orthopeadic trainee in the Eastern Cape and later in the United Kingdom from 2003-4.
He returned to specialize in Orthopaedics at the University of Cape Town.
During this time he won the GF du Toit prize for registrar paper delivered at SAOA congress.
He successfully completed his studies in 2010 obtaining his FCS (Orth) SA and MMed (Orth) UCT.
He took up the Head of Department Orthopaedics post at New Somerset Hospital in 2011.
He worked closely with Dr Craig Hastings from 2011 where his love for foot and ankle surgery was fostered.
In 2015 he was awarded a prestigious foot and ankle fellowship with Dr Mark Myerson in Baltimore, Maryland USA which he successfully completed.
He is actively involved in the teaching and training of UCT orthopaedic trainees. He is experienced in multiple forms of trauma orthopaedic as well as foot and ankle surgery. He has lectured on numerous courses. He is an active member of the SAOA and South African Foot Surgeons Association.
